Adoption Poilcy

The decision to adopt is an important one that we take seriously. Please take time to read and carefully complete this application. Please include full explanations with as much information as possible. In order to adopt a pet, you must be at least 18 years old, be able to provide references and one form of government issued identification, consent to a home visit, pay the adoption fee and agree to all terms of the adoption application and contract. Ventura Farms Animal Rescue reserves the right to deny any application for any reason. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Upon approval, you will then have the option to choose a VFAR dog and sign our adoption contract.

Please note it typically takes at least 7-14 days to process your application (including reference checks and home visit). If you haven't heard from a VFAR representative after 7 days, please do email us to catch up at contact@vfrescue.org.

All prospective adopters must meet the following requirements:
  • Must be 18 or older with a valid driver's license
  • No history/record of animal abuse
  • No history/record of domestic abuse, as there is a clear link between people who abuse people and people who abuse animals
  • Follow-through with adoption requirements which include but are not limited to appearing for veterinary appointments, classes or any other requirements conditional to adoption.
  • The willingness to educate one’s self about the animal they are interested in adopting.
  • Having the previous experience required if we deem it a requirement for adoption of a specific animal.
  • An understanding that a child or teenager is not equipped emotionally or financially to act as the primary caregiver of a pet, and so people who present with the intention or similar intention of “getting my child a pet” is further investigated and assessed to be an appropriate situation for said animal.
  • Being met with attitude or inappropriate behavior as we endeavor to proceed through the adoption process will result in termination of the application.
